2026 – # We are not on holiday – we are retired

It is with mixed feelings that I begin this blog. Usually I would be super excited, but I am not! Don’t get me wrong, I have not lost the love of travel at all. However, as I reflect on one of the key reasons for blogging, it was so our parents could follow our holiday in detail, and secondly so we could capture the memories for ourselves and share tips and adventures with other family, friends and interested travellers.

Last holiday in 2024 Dad L. assisted us to allow a much needed escape from matters in my family estate. He, like my parents was an avid follower of the blogs, providing much pleasure and wonderful conversations for all. Now all of our parents have passed away and it is sad to think that they will not be sharing in this adventure.

I also wanted to visit my uncle in France on this trip, however the war started the day after we booked on Emirates so our trip has been delayed, and very sadly he passed away a couple of weeks ago. We will take them with us in our hearts and thoughts as we venture off to eastern Europe including Turkiye for the next 7 weeks.

The other reason for tempered excitement (and more positive) is that our lives have changed dramatically in the past year. All those details are another story yet to be written, suffice to say we now live in one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand and have retired early.

Every day feels super blessed and like we are on holiday – therein our motto #we are not on holiday – we are retired 🙂

Our bags are packed, Bella the fur child will get dropped off at Aunty’s tomorrow where niece is excited to have her under her wing. Then it’s to Christchurch to see our adorable grandchildren (and their parents of course) before our early flight the following day.

That holiday feeling will come I am sure once we are at the airport. Do join us on this adventure, post comments and be inspired.

I am excited to share it with you!

  1. So many changes in just a few years – it’s like a whole new life. But the past is still there, in a way.
