Day 37 – Sunday 14 June
Today was purely to enjoy and soak up the Adriatic coast or perhaps the edge of Istrian…. Breakfast was enjoyed al-fresco and after the usual small hand wash of clothes and daily admin we set off for a little wander around the traditional fishing village surrounding the marina.

It reminded us very much of places in Italy, which of course aligns with the history of the area and its dual languages of Italian and Slovenian. We popped into a local wine and liqueur maker and tried their local wine liqueur. It was very drinkable – almost prune and spice like, along with their orangecello.

It was a pretty warm day with the pending heatwave approaching, so our lunch stop ended up at an ice cream shop where we had for the first time a large German style sundae. Impressive and delicious and certainly not something that either of us would enjoy alone – it was more than enough to share.

We were keen to get back into the water, and headed back to the hotel without delay for a change and into the lovely sea. We spent nearly an hour enjoying the water, before warming up again and drying off on a nearby bench. The whole afternoon was super relaxing, enjoying the weightless cool ocean swaying in tune with its rhythm, and then basking in the warm air and watching families and individuals enjoying their own memory making.

Dinner was downstairs at the hotel fine dining again, where I had a fresh grilled local white fish and vegetables and Vern had ravioli with a creamy fresh truffle sauce. We made it to desert this time and had a hazelnut lava-souffle cake and strudel. In all a perfect day (couple of days) by the seaside to welcome in Vern’s birthday tomorrow.
This is somewhere I would be curious to visit tooSent from my iPhoneOn Jun 20, 2026,
