Day 6 – Too soon farewell, off to Penzance

Thursday 19 September

Again a wonderful, easy and warm connection. Geoff is the youngest and the family resemblance to Dad is strong, to the point of almost disturbing at times. Mainly in looks, however I was reminded of mannerisms that belonged to Grandma, some of which my father shared. When we left I was given a bag of apples from the garden, something that my father would have done. I have treasured those apples this week, they are so much more than something to eat. Judy insisted that I choose some pottery to take with me, and I have some small treasures now that will carry much love and positive energy with them.

We departed around 10:30am after a delicious breakfast of home preserves and scrambled eggs. It has taken me a bit to get my head around the experience, all I can say is I feel belonging, connection, and love. How blessed and thankful I am.

Navigation advised the drive to Penzance is about 5.45 hours. We had a coupe of stops at services stops, including one that had a far shop. There was a beautiful array of meats, cheeses, alcoholic brews, fruit and vegetable, that if we had been able to self cater I would have had a ball with selecting top quality produce.

We made good time and arrived at our B&B in Penzance at around 7pm. The Pendennis Guest house was chosen for its great reviews, good location and within budget. The husband and wife team that own it are lovely and the husband a former chef. We get to choose breakfast from an interesting and varied menu each morning. The street we are on is beautiful tree lined and ends at the promenade. The house dates back to 1860 and is a duplex Victorian 11 bedroom home. The architect that designed it, also lived in it. We are on the top floor and have a comfortable room with separate bathroom, including a bath. Every comfort is considered with tea/coffee tray, kettle biscuits and chocolates.

We dumped ours bags, quickly found a restaurant close by a short 10 minutes walk at the end of the street. The Thai restaurant was surprisingly good and great value for money. Vern had satay chicken which was very moist and tender, and the xxxKew noodle dish. I had a spicy red seafood curry which was cooked perfectly.

I have still a lot to process, all happy thoughts but fell asleep too quickly to reflect! I guess that is a good thing.
